In reply to T-Ravisty, I'll defs try to post something in that thread at some point! Unfortunately after researching them, the Note and Slate are just too small for me. It's less than $1000 too which is awesome. And from what I've read online those that have it seem to be happy with the way the pen works on it, and where word of mouth still left me in doubt, this video pretty much sold me. Still not sure how it will feel drawing with the pen, but I'm not necessarily looking to replace my intuos5 completely. And after trying this laptop out in person at Best Buy, I think the Thinkpad Yoga 14 just looks and feels like everything I've ever wanted in a laptop, with dedicated graphics to boot! I even checked out the services and it says in store it's pen-enabled with wacom drivers. That being said, I'm still going to get a new laptop eventually since my current one's keyboard recently quit working.

And since the system is a Mac, she does not mind switching out her old Mac. Apparently it's going to have 32gb ram and a "beastly processor", in his words, so now I no longer have to worry about being able to render on a laptop! I'll just have to stick the desktop in my sister's room lol. He works with computers and builds them for a living, so I trust him.

It looks like my dad's friend did some research and is going to build me a desktop that for sure can run Maya. Phew, sorry I disappeared for such a long time without reply everyone! Been hyperfocused on securing a maya-friendly system before next year (I'll be taking the maya classes in February 2016). I'm using Australian currency here as I'm too lazy to lookup comparable prices of laptops in the US right now. Pretty much a budget of AUD $800 - 1400 would be a good place to go for a decent brand new laptop. Pretty much around AUD $200 and $450 respectively, used.

Hell, why not spend a bit of dosh on a Samsung Note 10.1 or Samsung Series 7 Slate? They're cheap enough and will enable you to draw and 2D animate on-screen. So yeah, grab yourself a CC/2 at some point, I just feel that in the meantime you'll get by better with the laptop/USB tablet combo, both for the hip-pocket and also for computational performance.īe sure to post some of your work here at some point, it'll be great to see some other peoples work (even if not TPC, art is art - it'll boost the artist community here a bit). The Cintiq Companions are still great devices and I too would love to get one eventually.
